Add your export
Drop an official ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok export .zip in as it arrived — whatever size it is — and Mirror unpacks it into your private archive, then shows you how much of your history lives only in the provider's account. Big zips are stripped down to conversation data in your browser first (often 1–3 minutes on large Takeouts), then under 100 MB of chats upload. First try after idle can be slower — if it times out, retry; the file stays on your device until upload finishes.
You need to sign in to add an export to your archive. The export guide below works either way — grab your file while you sign in.
After you upload: Ask what's in here · Connect an agent — vault → Ask → Connect. An export is a snapshot of chats you already have; drop the next official .zip whenever you want a fresher vault.
How to get your export
Mirror works with the official data export from ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok — the .zip each provider emails you. Request takes a few minutes; delivery differs: Grok and Claude usually land within minutes, while ChatGPT's can take hours — sometimes a few days.
Big zips are fine: drop the official .zip in exactly as it arrived — even a multi-hundred-MB ChatGPT Takeout or Grok package. Mirror strips out the images and extras in your browser and only uploads your conversation data.
ChatGPT can take days
- Sign in at chatgpt.com and open your profile menu.
- Choose Settings, then Data controls.
- Under Export data, click Export, then Confirm export.
- OpenAI emails (or texts) you a download link. It's rarely instant — often hours, up to a few days for large accounts — and expires 24 hours after it arrives. Request it now, then keep going; don't wait on it.
- Download the .zip while signed in, then drop it in above as it arrived — whatever size it is. Mirror prepares it for upload automatically.
Claude usually minutes
- Sign in at claude.ai and click your initials in the lower-left corner.
- Choose Settings, then the Privacy section.
- Click Export data and confirm.
- Anthropic emails a download link — usually within minutes. It expires 24 hours after delivery, and you must be signed in to use it.
- Download the .zip. Claude exports nest smaller zips inside one package — upload the outer .zip as it arrived.
Grok usually minutes
- Sign in at grok.com (or open accounts.x.ai/data).
- Open Settings, then Data Controls (or the account data page).
- Request a data download / export and confirm.
- xAI usually emails a download link within minutes. Download the .zip while signed in.
- Drop the official .zip in as it arrived — or the raw prod-grok-backend.json if that is what you have. Mirror prepares nested Grok packages automatically.
What a valid export looks like
- Official provider .zip (or .json) from the email link — not a screenshot, PDF, or chat.html.
- ChatGPT packages include conversation data plus account files like chat.html / user.json — Mirror keeps the conversations and skips the rest for you.
- Claude packages nest smaller zips (conversations, projects, memories) inside one outer .zip — upload the whole thing.
- Grok packages often nest a UUID-named zip around prod-grok-backend.json — upload the outer zip as it arrived.
Common mistakes
- A screenshot or PDF — Mirror needs the official export file from the provider email, not an image of a chat.
- chat.html — that's the readable viewer inside the zip, not the data. Drop the whole .zip in instead; we pull the conversation data out for you.
- Unzipping it yourself — you don't need to pick files out of the export. Upload the official .zip as it arrived and Mirror prepares it.
- An expired email link — request a fresh export; links die after 24 hours.
- An empty or partial zip — if the download stalled, grab it again while signed in.
- Editing the JSON first — upload the file as-is; re-saving it usually breaks the format.
